POETRY

In the dim light of my cell phone

In the dim light of my cell phone…

When I could not rest and sleep

When I looked inside and

Let the heart speak…

In the dim light of my cell phone….

I get up to write what I feel tonight.

I’ve wanted to speak to people

Every day for different reasons,

Though you being there in every reason,

Your thought pushing me every moment.

I wish to tell you tonight

How happy you make me

Your words embrace me, and

Love drives me……

To scream to the world

That I am complete

Because I have you.

So your thought in me, you in me

Came out, once again tonight

To let the world know

That I have you……

In the dim light of my cell phone

I want to tell you how I wish that

You were here to feel as I die to write

To hear you in Me…

I wish that you were here

To know that it was your happiness which I was sharing with world tonight….

It was You in Me which I was celebrating tonight

In the dim light of my cell phone..

  1. Purnima,
Very thoughtful poem. It is interesting to hear from fellow bloggers what their influences have been. Being one who hasn’t read much poetry, but would like to, can you direct me to those poets who have had the greatest effect on you? Poetry is an art form that I have no knowledge of and there seems to be good reason to explore it. The name Rumi seems to come up quite a bit. Would Rumi be a good place to start? I was hoping that you could help me “cut to the chase” so to speak regarding the great poets. Perhaps, after reading the poets you suggest, I will make attempts at writing some poems. Have you read poetry by Percy Shelley (1792-1822). Here are some words written by Shelley: “A brighter morn awaits the human day, when poverty and wealth, the thirst for fame, the fear of infamy, disease and woe, war with its million horrors, and fierce hell, shall live but in the memory of time.” Can you believe he wrote those words when he was only 18 years old?
    Thank you,

  2. Hello Jerry,

Thank you very much for reading and the b’ful appreciation!! It’s very encouraging.

Well, this poem is really close to my heart and I wrote this actually under the light of my cell phone out of love for my beloved who is my husband today 🙂

I really do not know much about poetry. I only remember Robert Frost’s “Road not taken” that was as part of my text book when I was studying. Somehow, I liked it and find it very useful to day to day life. I’ve heard about Rumi and read some of his quotes.

It’s great that you want to attempt at poetry. Let’s help mutually then.. will try to learn about the great poets and share with you my interests. Will learn from you similarly 🙂

I will surely go through the poem you suggested. Thanks for mentioning it.

    Happy writing!!

    God Bless,

    Purnima

  3. Purnima,
It seems that one of the differences between poetry and prose is that poems are more refined, purer than ordinary words. Perhaps an example would be where a man or a woman writes a 10,000 word article, the poet distills the feeling of the article, separates the “wheat from the chaff”, so to speak, and the wheat is displayed in a 800 word poem. The poet seems to strive for the essence of his or her message, without including anything irrelevant. Maybe poets are people who just want to get directly to the point. The number of various styles between strictly prose and strictly poetry writers is very large. I guess whatever works is just fine.
    Thanks,
    Jerry
